1. When using any tool, safety glasses, ear protectors,
and safety shoes should be worn for full protection. On overhead work,
a safety helmet should also be worn.
2. Never cause undue leverage to be applied to the tool
during operation. If a tool is being used properly, this action is not
necessary.
3. Never use any of these tools as a hand struck tool
as they are specifically designed and heat treated to be used only in
air, electric, or hydraulic hammers.
4. Always use the proper tool for the work for which
it was designed. Each tool has its own specific purpose.
5. Never use dull tools as they will accomplish nothing
and will break from fatigue.
6. Always follow proper reconditioning procedures to
reduce chances of breakage. We cannot be responsible for tools reconditioned
by others. Proper procedures are available upon request.
7. Keep all hammer parts in good repair as they affect
the life of the tool.
8. Be sure to select the correct shank for the hammer
you are using as there are many types and styles in use today.
9. Never alter the tool in any way. This could cause
the tool to fail in service.
10. Always have a sure footing to give hammer proper
support while operating - take no chances.
11. Never operate air hammers at a pressure greater
than 100 p.s.i.
12. Warm tools prior to use when temperature is below
freezing.
13. Tools without cutting edges are used for driving
and ramming and should be examined constantly for any sign of fatigue.
14. Always maintain firm and steady pressure on the
hammer or rock drill to prevent stress build-up that could result in tool
failure.
